Excecutive
Director
Wowee! What a year! I should have known when I opened the fortune
cookie and it said, “Your blessing is being safe and sound in your whole
lifetime”. I’ve gone from Office Administrator to Executive Director.
Not that anything has really changed, just more responsibility and now, they
look at me and ask what to do instead of asking for suggestions on what to do.
But, it’s been a great experience. Like Ken Weas says, two years ago I
couldn’t even say autonomic dysreflexia and now I know how to treat it.
Although we’re having a bit of a day-to-day financial struggle; thanks
to our talented treasurer, we’re surviving. All the programs are in a
slower phase, we have to figure the cost before we can go ahead, but it only
serves to make us more grounded and careful. Everyone has been doing a super
coping job. The Board members bring their lunch to the meetings; we’ve
discovered that ‘brown-bagging’ isn’t too bad with the right
company. I’ve become the ‘paper police’ and terrorize everyone.
Now, Steve projects our Board Meeting Agenda and our reports on the wall of
the conference room instead of printing out individual reports. You would be
proud of the initiatives that are popping up all over our office to reuse, save
and make do.
If you’ve been thinking about investing in one of our fund raisers (on
the back cover) do it now! We’re trying very hard to stay within budget
and every few bucks helps.
Much as I loved the entire Holiday Season, mistletoe, Midnight Mass, gifts,
eggnog, I’m relieved when it’s over. The New Year is shiny new and
just waiting for us to put our stamp on it. Let’s do it! Come down to
the office to visit or just call, we’re here for you and want to make
your life easier.
